Us, Mentana

There are four of them: Robin-Joël Cool, Viviane Audet, Erik West-Millette and Yannick Parent. Not quite the Fab Four yet… but clearly on their way.

Mentana is a folk-Americana band driven by a deep friendship and a shared desire to tell stories.

When filming begins, Robin-Joël Cool and Viviane Audet are not yet the public figures they will become. For several months the camera stays close, backstage, on the road and inside the creative process, while the band is still finding its voice and its place.

That closeness captures rare testimonies… artists talking about their dreams, their doubts, their roots and their future, before success changes the way the public sees them.

Us, Mentana is the intimate portrait of a then-unknown band, caught at a unique moment… just before take-off.

A testament to four artists in the making, including Robin-Joël and Viviane, filmed while they are still simply themselves.

Years later, now that they are familiar faces, these images take on a special value. They let us measure the distance travelled, while showing that behind the fame, the essence of who they were is still there.
