GLITTER FROM DUST

A short documentary mini-series

Both timeless and immediate, Glitter from Dust is an important archive of untold Cuban LGBTQ histories. Each of six episodes in this documentary mini-series is a portrait of one subject. From the first clandestine drag shows in the country to forced isolation during the HIV crisis, each individual’s personal experience speaks to different elements of queer history in Cuba. The daring and dedicated individuals featured in this series fought for equality and paved the way for future generations of LGBTQ people, both in Santa Clara and across the country. Through their stories, we learn about both the dark history of oppression in Cuba and how the country is changing as a result of their work and activism.

Kristen Brown is a Montreal-based Filmmaker and Director of Photography who works primarily in documentary film. Her first short film, “The Mirror of Others” has been screened to audiences in Hong Kong, Paris and Beirut. Some of her work as Director of Photography has screened on The New Yorker Documentary, CBC Gem and APTN.

She is a media maker and social justice organizer, and remains dedicated to developing critical documentaries for transformative social change and aiding grassroots campaigns for justice.
